Canadian Government Launches Nationwide Initiative to Enhance Women’s Health

by Ella

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) have taken a steadfast stance to enhance the health and overall well-being of all women and gender-diverse individuals across Canada.

In the ambit of the 2021 Budget, CIHR and WAGE have received funding earmarked for the execution of the National Women’s Health Research Initiative—an integrated research initiative targeting underexplored and high-priority sectors within women’s health. A total investment of $8.3 million has been directed by CIHR and WAGE towards establishing a comprehensive Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition. The core objective of this Coalition is to amplify the prominence and influence of women’s health research and practices throughout Canada, firmly rooted in the tenets of equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous Rights.

At its core, the Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition is structured around 10 virtual hubs spanning the Canadian landscape. These hubs will ultimately be interconnected via an overarching coordinating center. A distinct funding opportunity for the coordinating center will be introduced in due course.
