The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled an extensive women’s health strategy as part of a broader plan outlined by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The National Policy for Improving Women’s Health aims to lower cancer-related deaths among women to 23.24 per 100,000 and reduce the overall mortality rate for females to 62.77 per 100,000 under this initiative. Addressing issues related to unhealthy lifestyles, such as obesity and lack of physical exercise, the UAE targets a three percent reduction in medical problems arising from these factors. The comprehensive health drive, endorsed during the UAE Cabinet meeting, emphasizes collaboration between public and private sectors to enhance care and advance medical research. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of the new initiative, stating, “All government and private sectors will work together to champion health research, to cultivate in the country the best environment that prioritizes women’s health.”
In addition to the women’s health strategy, Sheikh Mohammed announced the launch of the Supreme Policy for Science, Technology, and Innovation. This initiative focuses on areas such as energy transition, health, food security, water security, technology, cybersecurity, and manufacturing. Investing in research and development programs is seen as essential to enhancing the country’s GDP and creating opportunities for future generations.
Furthermore, the UAE Cabinet introduced a new system to evaluate the effectiveness of government-introduced laws. This law enforcement indicator aims to assess the impact of laws on investors, citizens, residents, or specialized groups. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE’s commitment to a global approach in its laws and procedures, emphasizing transparency and the rule of law as key priorities.
The Cabinet also launched an online database featuring all legislation, federal decrees, executive regulations, and federal executive decisions since the UAE’s formation in 1971. This platform, accessible in both Arabic and English languages, encourages public engagement and allows specialists to contribute to shaping future legislation. The objective is to enhance government transparency, foster participation, and maintain the UAE’s legislative environment among the best globally.
